Nightmares & Fairy Tales: Once Upon a Time

Wow, this book was just weird. Yet, extremely interesting. It's about a little doll named Annabelle who is somehow concsious of her surroundings. "As the stories unravel tiny shreds of myself shall come to light and a portrait of suffering and self realization will present itself for all to examine. Then you can decide what I am... ...For I do not know," she says at the beginning.

The story starts off with a girl named Morgan who finds Annabelle in a throw-away box. Horrible and unexplained things happen and everyone she cares about is killed. They never really explain what is going on.

The next story is a story of her friend Dominique who claims to be a vampire. This was before she met Morgan and she is living in a Nunnery. She also has Annabelle. Her child is taken away from her and her best friend killed. This also is not explained.

The third story is where the Fairy Tales begin. It is the story of Snow White. She is sent off to her aunt's house with Sylas, her step-mother's aide. He cuts out her heart on the way and gives it to the step-mother to make her young and beautiful again. Snow White, of course, also has Annabelle, but her story ends in a 'Happily-ever-after'. Snow somehow continues on with her life without her heart. Annabelle, however, has left to haunt the step-mother by appearing at every corner. Eventually Snow comes back to get her heart and she puts back in and she lives happily ever after.

Whether you want to know the rest of the story is up to you. If so, then go to the library and check it out or buy it at a book store, but I'm not going to ruin anything else. I really did like this book, even if it did creep me out a little. The unexplained parts of the story did confuse me a little but overall the story was nice and suspensful. If you like to think about things and enjoy some interesting artwork then this book might just be good for you.
